Nakaochiai
Diamond Project
Clint Taniguchi (San Francisco)
In conjunction with Tokyo`s THANK YOU ART DAY`Nakaochiai Gallery served
`Cold Stop` herb tea and gave away photographs to the 54 participants
of the Diamond Aura Project. San Francisco based artist Clint
Taniguchi debuted at Nakaochiai Gallery`s opening show `See You` in November 2004. In this community-based portrait project, participants
are requested to stretch a giant rubber band around their own
bodies, arms outstretched in a pose emulating Leonardo Vitruvian
Man. The space within the band is then coloured in digitally.
Taniguchi sees the image as capturing the participants pose
of empowerment with a diamond aura of light. "The rubber
band loop becomes a magical tool that opens people up to seeing
themselves in a larger and more refreshing context". To date the Diamond Aura Project has been exhibited
at Western Exhibitions (Chicago) Adobe Bookshop, (San Francisco)
New Langton Arts Centre (San Francisco) CCA (San Francisco)
Nakaochiai Gallery (Tokyo). Taniguchi plans to continue introducing
communities to one another around the world through this innovative
approach. Photographic Prints (50 cm x 70 cm) of the Tokyo,
San Francisco and Chicago Diamond Project are available at
Nakaochiai Gallery. Please contact us for further information.
